Thanks to a group of creative, invested Predocs, our program has a new Special Event series! The new “Pizza, Science, & Beyond” (PSB) initiative is intended to bring PhD students from different institutes and backgrounds together to discuss science.
They achieve this goal by having one student give a “chalk talk” style presentation explicitly prepared to stimulate discussion with members of the audience. They encourage active discussion by emphasizing future plans and general concepts, rather than hardcore data. Moreover, to ensure plenty of interaction, both the introducer and the speaker explicitly ask the audience to actively participate by asking questions, interrupting, or offering a suggestion at any time.
We expect that this initiative will promote the exchange of ideas/expertise and fostering of collaborations between students, and in doing so have a direct positive impact on the scientific research conducted by DIPP PhD students. A pilot run of the program last month was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback.
