You are eligible for our IMPRS if you can answer all questions below with a clear “yes”:
Candidates previously affiliated with an IMPRS group may join this group for PhD thesis work if the previous affiliation did not exceed 12 months. Internal candidates must demonstrate outstanding performance and the highest potential in order to be invited for interviews. To avoid any favoritism or bias, group leaders associated with an internal candidate will not be involved in judging the candidate’s qualification for admission.
* In Germany, a PhD is normally started after completing a Masters degree. In extremely exceptional cases, however, we may consider candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree. This goes for countries where an MSc is not traditionally part of the path to academic research (i.e. USA). Independent research and a written thesis are absolutely required in this case, and your academic records must be outstanding. The likelihood of successful application with only a BSc is low. Even if the application is successful, there may be additional requirements as compared to your colleagues with an MSc. (i.e. taking a course). This is decided on by our partner institute, TU Dresden. This is because of German legal regulations; We do not have the power to make exceptions to this, in case TUD decides that you needs to take courses.
