DIPP Vision Talks Begin

Jacqueline Tabler opens 2017-2018 series of presentations

The 2017-2018 Series of DIPP Vision Talks opened on 10 October 2017 with a presentation titled "About Face: Shaping the Craniofacial Complex" given by Jacqueline M. Tabler of MPI-CBG, Dresden. Instead of a traditional seminar, discussing the specific work in a particular lab, these talks aim to explore current challenges and future possibilities.

PhD student Romina Piscitello-Gomez (Eaton Lab) reinforced this, saying: "I found the talk really interesting. Jacqui focused on what has been done so far and which techniques are used in the field. She also stressed where the field is going." Piscitello Gomez is one of the co-organizers of the 2017-2018 DIPP Vision Talks, along with Dalileh Nabi (Jessberger Lab).

Through Tabler's talk, the audience, composed primarily of PhD students and MPI-CBG staff, learned more about one of the newer research group leaders in the institute. Tabler joined the MPI-CBG in January 2017, and her first PhD students were chosen in the Spring 2017 DIPP Selection in March.

The aim of the DIPP Vision Talks is to give insight into the different research fields represented in the Dresden International PhD Program, from Biomaterials and Bioengineering, to Cell and Developmental Biology, to Biophysics, Biochemistry, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science. In a one-hour presentation, speakers give an overview of their respective research field with focus on existing resources, most common techniques and historical milestones. Most importantly, speakers are encouraged to highlight open questions and challenges in the field, and to present their vision of potential developments in the field, both in the near future and on the distant horizon.

The schedule for the 2017-2018 can be found below, as well as on the website of the Dresden International PhD Program and the Dresden Science Calendar.
